According to Playbill, Nederlander Presentations, Inc. just confirmed the revival of Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway, for a limited time, after a US Tour, starting October 2, 2012, at San Diego's Civic Theatre in California.
Constantine Maroulis will play the role of Jekyll/Hyde. Jeff Calhoun, who just directed Bonnie & Clyde will be directing and choreographing the show. -------------------- |

Having it scheduled as a limited engagement is smart. If it's a hit..then it can be extended.
Excited to see what Calhoun will do with this. Critics are probably going nuts right now |

Also do you think the plan for this is to help generate support for the movie?

I don't know...it's possible but I doubt it. I don't think there's any plans about the movie apart from the "we want to do it" stage. Maybe the Revival could help IF they cast someone like, say, Jackman as J/H on either the stage version, the movie or in both places. But he'll be shooting Les Miserables so I doubt he would accept.
To be honest I would rather see the Revival shot directly to Blu-Ray/DVD like PotO and Love Never Dies, as a filmed stage production rather than see a movie musical of it. By experience we all know movie musicals suck and butcher the works they're adapting. -------------------- |

Newbie here.
Several different cities have started announcing their 2012-2013 Broadway series schedules and Jekyll & Hyde is listed among many of them. So far, I see the show is opening in San Deigo. From there, I see Houston, Tampa, DC, Philly, Durham, NC, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. What I think the final stop before the transfer to Broadway is in LA at the Pantages Feb 12 - through March 3rd. I can't wait to see the production and am still hoping for a stop in a city close to me here in Ohio. |
