The company is also developing several musicals including a new film version of "Jesus Christ Superstar", Rob Marshall's "Nine", a biopic of George Gershwin, and the film version of the recent musical hit "Wicked".

On the latter, Platt confirms they are in early movie talks with "Wicked" showrunners Marc and Stephen Schwartz, and that book writer Winnie Holzman will write the script.

Just wondered what yall thought about this and figured it might be fun to discuss ideal movie casting.

Here is my vote:

Elphaba: Idina Menzel (she's ben doing movies and would be nice to see her rather then just hear her).

Glinda: Kristin Chenoweth (She's an established film and television actor too).

Fiyero: Wayne Brady (Can sing and IS black, like the Fiyero of the book).

Madam Morrible: Glenn Close (She has proven movie and stage musical history, plus she's billiant at playing someone like this).

Boq: Alan Tudyk (Not entirely sure he can sing, but hey... Neither can Johnny Depp and he turned out okay and thats with music a thousand times more difficult to sing. Besides, I just think he has the right look for it).

Nessa: Anne Hathaway (She probably can't sing to save her life, but Nessa doesn't much anyway. She just has that Royal sort of look and grace that I attribute to Nessarose).

The Wizard: Derek Jacobi (Don't know his singing ability, but he has a proven stage career and is one of Britain's most respected film and television actors... his performance as Professor YANA in Doctor Who, and eventually THE MASTER, was divine).

Thats it really.

Oh and seeing as their apparently trying to remake a film version of JC Superstar...

Who do you reckon could pull those roles off? I for one would like to see Alan Rickman as Caiaphas. Maybe even David Thewlis as Annas.

Drew Carey looks like Herrod, but he probably can't sing. Maybe Jack Black?

Well I think I will make you day or your choice of Ann Hathaway. Ann can sing. She was in "Carnival" with Douglas Sills a few years ago.

I like your choices with the two leading ladies being in the movie from the Broadway production. And I think Glenn Close is a very good choice too. :D

Aye, Anne has also done other singing work, including singing Queen's "Somebody to Love" in her film Ella Enchanted, performing as Johanna in selections from Sweeney Todd for a Sondheim concert, and more. She wanted to audition for Christine in the Phantom of the Opera movie, as well, but was under contract by Disney to do Princess Diaries 2 instead.

If the film were to be made right now, I'd agree with most of your choices. (Though I think Joel Grey would be a better Wizard; he has done film work, as well, and won an Oscar for the movie version of Cabaret.) But I'd kinda like them to wait until the hype surrounding the stage show has died down a bit more, so the film will feel more like a "revival" or "renewal." After all, the stage show is still a box-office smash everywhere it's playing, so I think a film is the last thing they need at this point. Maybe 10 years or so down the road...
