Title: Alice (Wonderland) Production In Florida?
libradude - July 6, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
I just came across this link (it's translated from German):
http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl...BFRJRoFjQi9YurQNear the end, they make reference to an Alice production happening in Florida in 2009. "For this musical, the 2009 premiere in Florida..."
Any news on that? I assume they're talking about the "The Broadway Theatre Project" in Tampa that already occured.

I'm not surprised if that's true. Now I just have to wait for an announcement and get to Florida.

I've still yet to hear what songs were performed at the Tampa "Workshop" in 2007. Apparently there were four and one was a "hip-hop" number and the other was a "salsa" piece according to someone who was in the audience. They're really keeping this show under wraps

If they're keeping it under wraps, they have good reason. I'd like to believe that they have something REALLY major in the works. I TOTALLY understand if they want to keep that confidential...for now.

Well, you know Frank... he's always got a lot of things in the works. When you see mentions of things like this, it usually means that those plans are being discussed and worked on... and that things will hopefully happen. But we also know things can take a while, and plans can get changed around. As his webmaster, I don't want to start posting or talking about things that are too far off in the future, and not fully confirmed as happening. We've got plenty of things coming up already that are more definite... right now the Dracula Graz CD is out and Pimpernel is in Takarazuka, then we have Carmen in Prague this October, Rudolf in Vienna next February, Monte Cristo in St. Gallen next March, and Cyrano in Spain too. You could say "that's old news, new news is more exciting..." but really... that's a lot going on that's plenty exciting in the next eight to ten months. And by the time it happens, we'll be hearing something more definite for what's coming in the rest of 2009. As Frank says, "keep the faith." :)

I suppose this project interests me a bit more than some of Frank's other endeavors because I love the concept/subject matter and it would be the first of his shows in a few years to premiere in the U.S. Let's also not forget that Brandi still needs a breakout show to get her into the public's eyes. Linda had Jekyll and Brandi is tied to the role of Alice. With that in mind, it seems fitting that this show will recieve a production SOMEWHERE soon.
Although, Florida? It seems like a bit of a long shot. Not that there's anything wrong with Florida, but it isn't exactly the center of the musical theatre world. It seems more likely that the site was talking about the "Workshop" that already occured in Tampa in '07. Hope to hear some updates on this soon!

UPDATE:
This is the quote that Frank made at the "Frank Wildhorn & Friends" concert in Graz, Austria:
"In Christmas '09, in Florida, will begin another new show. It's called Wonderland, and yes, it's based off Alice In Wonderland-- but not the Alice In Wonderland you would think. Because Alice hasn't been to Wonderland in about two hundred years. So Wonderland is a mess. So they kidnap Alice, who is a children's book writer, and bring her back down to Wonderland to make everything right. And Alice actually has a child named Cloe. Instead of Alice, they make a mistake and kidnap Cloe. So Alice has to go through Wonderland to find her child and to find the child within herself again. Towards the end of the show she sings this song called "Once More I Can See."
I realize it's over a year away, but that's good news in any case! Brandi Burkhardt sounds FANTASTIC on "Once More I Can See." There is a clip of it on Jack Murphy's site. For the first time, I feel like she has the opportunity to come out of Linda Eder's shadow and prove how talented she is herself.

Why does this remind me so much of Jim Henson's "Labyrinth"

Haha, so true! My mind still goes straight to Hook with Robin Williams also.

Here's a statement from Brandi Burkhardt I recieved today regarding this production:
"Meanwhile, Alice is still slated to do an out of town showing in Tampa in "09. We won't know about casting until much closer to that date. Thanks for your interest in it. it really is a touching show."

I'm going :D And that's all I'm saying until we get an official announcement.
