Hi folks,
I've just been informed that the Graz cast recording of
Dracula will be available on
20 June. It will feature the cast from the Musical Festival Graz production and the Orchestra of Operett Színház in Budapest, Hungary, conducted by Koen Schoots.
It should be available from
http://www.soundofmusic-shop.de/ and
http://www.musical-shop.de/index.asp among other places.
Mark those calendars!
Best,
Peter

So I gather it will not be recorded in English? :)
Juggler - May 15, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
This CD will be in German. We're still waiting on an English language CD of the show.
MinaHarker - May 21, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
Anybody here who´s interested in the German Dracula CD?
If yes, pm me, and I try to find out the best way to send the CD´s to the States as cheap as possible.
Maybe we can collect the orders to pay less postage to the states?
I don´t know, only an offer

Just curious, do you know if this recording feature the trio version of Loving You Keeps Me Alive?
Toru771 - May 29, 2008 06:57 AM (GMT)
I'm also eagerly awaiting the German recording. I wasn't too fond of Thomas Borchert in Phantom of the Opera, Tanz der Vampire, or Jekyll & Hyde, but I'm still willing to give his Dracula a chance. And the rest of the cast seems awesome, especially Lyn Lichty (sp?) as Mina. :D
Does anyone know the exact reasons why the GlobalVision CD with James Barbour hasn't been released yet, and whether there are still plans to release it at some point? I'd love to own that recording as well, just to satisfy the Frank-ophile () in me.

maybe it is 12: ich lebe nur, weil es dich gibt?
which persons sang the trio?
Juggler - May 29, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
Trio? In the songlists I have for both the St. Gallen and the Graz productions, "Loving You Keeps Me Alive" was done as a solo each time. When was it done as a trio?
rockfenris2005 - May 30, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
I thought "Dracula", the Global Vision version, was held back because they didn't want to associate themselves with a pedophile or whatever. Unless I'm mistaken, Barbour is still working and about to appear in the Broadway production of Jill Santoriello's musical "Tale of Two Cities". You'll have to ask Jeremy.

The St. Gallen production definitely used the trio version (at least in later stages). From what I know, it was not Wildhorn's idea, but an arranger's. It's still amazing however. It is a trio between Dracula, Mina, and Jonathan.
They combined "A Perfect Life" and "Loving You Keeps Me Alive" into a single entity. It pretty much became one of the highlights of the show.
Here is a live recording of the sequence I'm talking about:

I listened to the St. Gallen performance with the trio. I loved that performance. Thanks for the link. :)
Juggler - June 6, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
This makes more sense to me now. In the song list I was given, it is listed as "A Perefct Life/Loving You Keeps Me Alive/Whitby Bay Reprise." I thought it was more a montage of the three, I didn't realize they layered everything together.
Back to your question... since they list all three of those titles together on the CD track list, I would guess we're going to get the trio version. But I can't say that with certainty (I'm trying to confirm this, too, and haven't heard back yet).

libradude - June 11, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
Great! I personally think it's an awesome sequence.
MinaHarker - June 13, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
next week I can tell you more
I ordered the CD at amazon and they send me as delivery date 19th of June!!! :P
oh I`m waiting here rrrrrrr
thx for the Thomas´part and Ann Christin
it´s such a great song, goosebump, when Thomas is singing
I think Dracula had the better German lyrics in this song in St. Gallen
this is absolutely a song, which stays in your head, if you leave the show
it was crazy in Graz, you wanted to sing with him and he had totally another lyrics B)
I believe, it will be this song:Track 12. Ich lebe nur, weil es dich gibt / Whitby Bay
it starts with Mina, than Dracula and than Mina, Dracula and Jonathan together!
libradude - June 13, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
That's awesome MinaHarker! Yeah, I think the St. Gallen production was the best one of Dracula to date from what I've seen/heard. Drew Sarich is amazing!
Here's his version of The Longer I Live on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAv3QlcTASMThe optional high ending he does is a little TOO "showy", but it's still awesome and proves his talent. I hope the Graz recording uses it, but I don't think it will.
libradude - June 13, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
Also, here's a video of the "Loving You Keeps Me Alive" sequence with english subtitles:

rockfenris2005 - June 14, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
That was absolutely mind-blowing for me! If only they would change it back to "One More Lonely Night". Compare "Lonely Night" with "Whitby Bay" and you'll see what I mean. The one which is more powerful is obvious. That's the only change they need to make, musically in a major sense, before they can perfect this, IMO.
libradude - June 14, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
I agree, Lonely Night is definitely the better of the two songs.
Yeah, Drew Sarich just brings something really new and fresh to the role of Dracula from what I've seen/heard. I'd always associated Dracula with a big booming baritone voice, but Sarich has a very different approach that works equally as well.
I also really like the idea of having Dracula played by a younger, seemingly more vulnerable guy. Mixed with "Loving You Keeps Me Alive" makes the character a lot easier to connect with than in previous versions of the show IMO.

Here's his version of The Longer I Live on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAv3QlcTASMthis song will be track 25 on the album
I prefer Thomas baritone in this song
St. Gallen was a good mix, Thomas and Drew played the same role, but totally different
maybe I´ll see Drew next year
with Thomas a have a few dates in the next months ;)

Hi folks,
I have confirmation that the CD is out! Currently available at Sound Of Music and Amazon.DE. I don't see it at Footlight or Dress Circle yet, but that may change (especially if people ask about it). It's still in the number one sales spot at SOM. :D
Best,
Peter

I just went to YouTube and listened to the songs that are up there from "Dracula". I love the fact I could see them performing. Oh my that Drew Sarich can hit some high notes. Loved his voice in this.
I am thinking I may have to get this CD. I lalso loved the triple songs being done together that someone give us a link to earlier. :D
Benniek - June 25, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
Question:
Is the Dracula CD the Studio Cast 2008 the one we have been talking about, correct? It does have Graz in the sentence. LOL
Anyway I didn't see Drew Sarich's name as one of the performers, was he not in the recording?

no sorry, but Drew wasn´t a part of the cast from Graz
he performed in St. Gallen in 2005
Thomas Borchert is Dracula on the CD

Mina
Thanks for letting me know that Drew Sarich wasn't on the recording as Dracula. I will assume the other man is wonderful too.

Sometimes the Studio Cast that's talked about on here is the unreleased 2006 Concept Recording.

I got itttttttttttttttttttttttttt yeah

... ein Leben mehr und du entkommst dem kühlen Graaaaaaaaab ............
Juggler - June 26, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
Someone's happy :D Glad you got it, Mina.
As for studio casts... personally I call the recording prepared by Globalvision a "studio concept recording" - it's not quite a "cast recording" in my book, because the "cast" on the CD didn't perform the show together on the stage. The Graz CD is a studio cast recording, certainly (they considered recording the show live on stage, but ended up doing it in a studio instead, so the result would be higher quality).
Fantasma da Opera - June 27, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
I've got the CD and I must say its worth every Euro I gave for it. The Orchestra of the Operettszinház really exceeded themselfs in this Recording and so did the actors. Even Uwe Kröger who lately hasn't been in very good shape sounds good!
And thank God the CD was Studio Recorded. I really don't like Live Recordings. I would really like to see Dracula get more productions and CD like J&H because it really deserves it! :D
Just a pitty it doesn't contain the lyrics...

yes, I think too, its a pitty, that they didn´t do the lyrics into the booklet
but the rest of the booklet looks good
and I like to listen to .................... I hope that it will come back on stage again
