I'm listening to the Broadway cast album. Not one track ever disappoints me. "Only Love" is always fighting to be my Wildhorn favourite (I'd love to see how it's staged in "Rudolf".)
I agree that "Only Love" is great. I do think it works better as an act I and II finale in Rudolf than just being thrown into SP.
I agree that the SP OBC is gorgeous. It also works much better as a whole than the incomplete Encore album (even though I think the changes are good).
I don't like the change with "You Are My Home". I don't think Nan does either. "You Are My Home" rings more true as a climactic scene than the first love duet. It almost sounds corny in the context of a wedding. "Believe" and "Vivez!" are much more subtle and effective, IMO. Other than that, the later productions of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" are definitely the improved ones. I just wish they would stop changing it. The production on lease should be the production, worldwide, but if you look at the tracklist on some of the foreign albums, songs are changed etc.
The only foreign albums out there for Pimpernel so far are the two German ones. The German production did change things around a bit... but now it's one set production used on German-speaking stages. And I believe most of the other productions around the world use the licensed script. It doesn't get changed around nearly as much as Jekyll. *g*
