Title: Complete Work Album?

libradude - February 16, 2008 08:27 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else think SP needs a Complete Work Album? In terms of the overall score, I personally think it's one of Frank's best. Right now, the albums available only serve as fragments of Frank's vision.

Also, there have not been English recordings made of some of the best songs in Scarlet Pimpernel. For example, the wedding duet version of "You Are My Home" and the SP2-4 Finale: "When I Look At You" (Reprise).

Similiar to Jekyll and Hyde and Civil War, I think Scarlet Pimpernel deserves a Complete Work album. This is pure opinion, but I would love to hear Douglas Sills, Rachel York, and William Paul Michals sing as the three leads.

Here are some of my personal opinions if such a recording were made:

1. No over-the-top digital orchestrations like J & H Resurrection had (once again, just my opinion).
2. Consider incorporating pieces in some form from the concept album and original broadway cast that were eventually cut (i.e. Believe, There Never Was A Time, Vivez). All were cut for good reasons, but they are still great songs. Only Love definitely works better with Rudolf though.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

No, I don't think it needs a Complete Work. I'm happy with what's available. What it needs is a DVD, with the entire show/score, like Jekyll & Hyde. I'd be really satisfied with one of those.

My problem with what is available is that it's incomplete.

"Encore!" failed to represent SP2-4 by leaving out "You Are My Home" (Wedding Version), the Finale version of "When I Look At You," and just the fact that all of the tracks were not rerecorded.

What I'm suggesting is a Complete Work version that blends the version 1 song list with 2-4. Or at the very least a FULL SP2-4 recording. The Austrian Cast Recording is the closet thing I've seen to that.

I would personally love a DVD as well though. I just very much feel that the current audio recordings are incomplete.

Well I am all for it. I agree no digital orchestrations. I want the real thing in the back ground.

I love the music to "The Scarlet Pimpernel", so I would love to have all the music recorded from the different versions of the production. Of course Douglas Sills will need to be Sir Percy and Rachel York definitely.

I'd also love for them to do a Studio Recording.....like Les Mis's though! Where every note is in it....Go all for it or go home :P.

They also left out the new "Rescue" scene after Into the FIre that I'd love to have recorded....I love just listening to the Entr'Acte & "Marguerite's Dilemma"!

I would like a Complete Work yes, but more of Dracula. Because, well, I love Pimpernel but its a show that to me, isn't THAT good just on the CD. I always thought Pimpernel IS a comic musical, and all the comedy always get lost in the CDs because you can't see the actors.
I would definitly prefer a DVD over the Complete Work of Pimpernel.
