Title: New Pimpernel CD

rockfenris2005 - August 10, 2007 08:40 AM (GMT)
I just saw this on soundofmusic.de
I had no idea it was even out. Is it official? Because it's not on the Wildhorn site

This is a new, official recording, yes. I've put the details up on ThePimpernel.com but haven't had a chance yet to add it to Frank or Nan's websites. I've been having server troubles lately...

Felsenbuehne Staatz also recorded Jekyll & Hyde. Not the best of international recordings, but for collectors who want all of the recordings and songs, it's worth getting.

I gather it is performed in their native tongue? :)

Correct - this is a German language recording.

I'm trying to imagine the songs sung in German. It's so amazing that the show is so popular there.

There are sound clips online from the Original German Cast Album (Halle):

I haven't seen any clips from the Staatz recording yet.

I just received my copy of the Staatz cast recording, and thought I'd share my thoughts...

Overall, the recording is good. Not quite the lush and highly polished sound that the Broadway CD has, but still a commendable job. Particularly worth noting are the parts that have been recorded here for the first time:

The Wedding Version of "You Are My Home." Also the "Garden Reprise" of this song (by Marguerite and Armand).

Chauvelin's short Reprise of "Madame Guillotine" leading up to "The Riddle."

The Ball Entrance Music/"Who Is The Scarlet Pimpernel?" at the start of Act 2.

It also has the first German recording of "I'll Forget You" - with a new choral part at the end!

For anyone who collects Pimpernel recordings, I definitely think this is worthwhile, for these offerings.

can this be purchased anywhere else online except soundofmusic.de?

I have trouble with the site!

I haven't seen it appear on Footlight's website yet. The Staatz Jekyll CD was offered there, so there's a good chance this one will be too. You could keep an eye out there - or Dress Circle if that option works for you. I'll be doing the same.

Many Thanks, Juggler!
