Title: For the Glory 2008
SaucyB - March 12, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
As most of you know by now, For the Glory will not be returning to the
Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, PA this summer. The producers,
creatives (and probably more then just a few fans) have very high hopes
that the show will be able to return in the summer of 08. Which got me
to thinking. What can we, as the fans, do to make sure this happens?
Now let me put a disclaimer out there - this is purely the musing of a
person who believes this show deserves a long, healthy life.
So, what do you think can be done to save "For the Glory"?

I know that part of the marketing plan is to solicit the visiting touring groups which is typically made up of mostly adults that come into Gettysburgh as part of a summer tour package. This should help the numbers a great deal.
I would say if you know of groups planning visits to that area, suggest they get in touch with the folks at the theater to see if group discounts apply. Also, if you know of schools that plan summer trips in the eastern part of PA. why not speak to their events co-ordinator to see if this could be in the plans as an educational package. Just a few ideas. Lots of groups puts cheeks in the seats.
But...they will have to price this right this time with lots of discounts. People have too many choices and not a lot of extra cash, especially familes visiting Gettysburg. just my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I've also created a Yahoo List for people interested in sharing ideas for keeping the show going.

Is "For The Glory" happening for 2008? I thought this was going to be a perenniel event? Unless the first one didn't do well...

Rock~ TheyGettysburgh area needs to re think the marketing plan on this one. The show is amazing! But if you can't consistantly play to a sizable house, it doesn't make good business sense to keep it going.
Here's hoping they will get it back there for summer 2008.

Unfortunately the folks in Gettysburg had nothing to do with the marketing. When the show opened, the marketing was being done by an independent firm that was hired by the production company. Everyone in Gettysburg knew it wasn't being done well or correctly and it drove us all nuts knowing we could have sold out this show on a regular basis. And unfortunately, that's probably one of (if not the) reason the show didn't succeed like we all know it should have.
Unfortunately now the problem seems to be financing a second year. Finding investors willing to help bring the show back.
Ideas anyone???

That REALLY sucks!
But it's still playing for the Bicentenniel, right?
O/T but I found this interesting article
"From Pop To Broadway
by PHIL NOURA" an interview w/ Frank Wildhorn following the Broadway premiere of "Jekyll & Hyde". When Wildhorn was asked about THE CIVIL WAR, he replied:
| QUOTE |
And melody is at the heart of Wildhorn's most ambitious project of all "The Civil War: An American Musical."
At the very mention of the project, Wildhorn's eyes become saucers of anticipation.
"Beginning in January and February, Atlantic Records will put out three separate albums. The first CD will include 30 stars people like Hootie and the Blowfish, Dr. John, The Winans, Betty Buckley, Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, Johnny Cash, Stacey Lattisaw and Linda."
Two other highlight CDs will follow. Then the plan calls for a TV concert, five outdoor concerts at Mount Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty and Stone Mountain in Atlanta and a national tour of the theater piece before a Broadway opening.
"And all this will be only Part One because the storyline only goes up to Gettysburg. Hey, this is about having some fun, isn't it?" More fun than being a Dallas Cowboy. |

Yes, it does REALLY suck. The show was amazing and it was an amazing experience for those of us involved. I don't know what the future holds for the show, but as for the production in Gettysburg that was supposed to continue for the next 4 years, it doesn't look good. But we can always hope. And pray. And wish. And buy winning lottery tickets...
