Title: Hugh Jackman
greeneyed - January 6, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
Just doing a bit of searching the net on the song "This is the moment". I was inspired to do so, as I was re-watching a video recording of the 1999 National Rugby League Grand Final (like the Super Bowl for Australians)... and Hugh Jackman sang "This is the moment" as the climax of the pre game entertainment presentation. He had just appeared in Oklahoma! on the West End.
I was actually at Stadium Australia (the venue for the 2000 Sydney Olympics) that day and I'm sure every one of the 110,000 people at the stadium remember him singing this, and the national anthem. His voice is wonderful and it was a very moving performance.
I've never seen Jekyll and Hyde, and don't know whether he would suit the role in the movie version...(don't even know if it is still going ahead), but his voice would be everything you could hope for, IMO. I'm not surprised if he's expressed interest in the movie, however... he clearly loved that song... and 1999 was before he became a big movie star.

Could you post the vid if at all possible?
I saw him live when he was SUNSET BOULEVARD with Debbie Byrne. He was brilliant.
I could see him doing the role... particularly after seeing him in THE PRESTIGE.

The movie, as far as I know, is most definitely going ahead.
MadameAngel - February 13, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
It had better be going on!! Or they'd have a LOT of angry Jekkies on their hands.
Andrew Darov - February 13, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
Why didn't they tell us some news about the film if they are sure now of the main cast or sometnig else?
I like if Jackman will play Jekyll.
MadameAngel - February 14, 2007 03:20 AM (GMT)
I think if they did have news of the film, they would tell us. I think Jackman would be a wonderful Jekyll/Hyde. Woo-hoo...
Toru771 - February 14, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
I agree... I saw The Prestige a while ago, and think Hugh could definitely make a great Jekyll/Hyde. He can sing, act, and be edgy when he needs to... so as long as he can do a great "evil voice," I think he'd be perfect.
Edward_Hyde - February 15, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
I want Emmy Rossum to play Lucy Harris
rockfenris2005 - February 15, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
Me, personally, I'd rather see Paris Hilton in a remake of Cleopatra. Noooo offense, I just don't like Emmy
& the Phantom movie traumatized me *cries hysterically*

Really...?
Why? I think she would be great! I don't like Hugh jackman that much, but think he would do great in J&H
rockfenris2005 - February 15, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
Well, look at it this way, even though this is all just my opinion, I probably wouldn't see it if she was in it. That's how much I did not like "Phantom" or her as Christine

was it how they sexed her up?
Or her voice? I hated the way they made the film sexy and made Gerry a pitiful deformity.. But I loved her voice and think she could do good. That's my opinion.
pati b - February 15, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
sorry,,, can't picture either of these in a J/H film. IMO, Jackman is neither evil or commanding enough to pull off Hyde. Besides, I would think his fee would be off the charts unless he did this on a whim. It was tough enough watching Sebastian Bach pull off evil...sexy...yes...evil NO.
Emmy Rossum showed as much emotion as a doe starring in headlights in POTO. I thought she "looked" perfect and vocally was the ideal young starlet with a pleasant little voice...but that won't cut it for the Lucy role at all. ...just my view.
rockfenris2005 - February 15, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
I admit that my opinion is a little biased.
The movie version of "Phantom" was so disappointing, for me, it was scarring. I especially didn't like Gerald's Phantom because it was like a bad imitation of Jim Steinman on one of his crazed monologues, IMO, and Emmy's Christine. Again, this is all my opinion, I just can't stand her because I think they could have chosen any other singer who would have sounded ten times more awesome than her. I didn't like the way Joel Schumacher cast the leads so young. I am still angry with him about ruining the "Batman" franchise in the 1990s. I will always be angry with him about that, LOL, (have you SEEN "Batman & Robin"  OMG)
She's good, don't get me wrong, but I hardly believe she'd be this awesome opera singer when I have friends who are studying, and aren't even as professional, who, to me, sound waay better than she did in "Phantom". After the "Phantom" movie, I'd only be too happy never to see Gerard, Gerald?, or Emmy in another musical again !!
IMO
As for Hugh Jackman. I think he'd do an interesting job, but I'm not sure if he's ever done something "legitimate horror" which is how I think Jekyll will be best sold to the public. Only time will tell
I think we can completely rule out the Complete Work cast being involved

Rock, I prefer my Christine's "pristine and pure" and I thought Rossom was so much...that! So many times I've seen these vocally seasoned actresses play Christine on stage almost as operatic as Carlotta. I lose interest in a budding star that's already blossomed into a full throated diva. If Rossom would have showed more than that frightened tearful doe face in every scene and added some more shades of acting, I would have fell for her hook line and sinker.
RE: Butler, I wanted to loath him because I know so many wonderful real life Phantom actors that would have tore up that part and loooked great in front of a camera doing it. But...part of me bought into his portrayal enough to make me think he should have just stolen the girl away from that wimpy Raoul ( no offence to Patrick, whom I love. Blast the direction!)
The film was NOT the staged version, but it was not a nightmare, imo.
ok...rant over.
Poole - February 18, 2007 11:34 AM (GMT)
I like Emmy Rossum, though, I haven't actually seen a staged version, but I don't really like the recordings. I agree with you, Pati, she needs to sound different from Carlotta - i mean, Carlotta's not meant to sound as nice as Christine!
The film itself was okay... Just a little... Boring!
Hugh Jackman would be interesting... but I feel a lot of us are saying it only because he does Theatre and Film. I think the film needs a big name pushing it, I just hope the budget will stretch
Andrew Darov - February 19, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
Well, I think Jackman will be The Ideal Jekyll.
As for Hyde, I think he will be just very good. Because I don't want to see Hyde as bloody monster. He should be cold evil, not cruel but just indifferent to the moral rules. And I'm sure he can do it.
Emmy Rossum - NO, NEVER! She's awfull. I hope they will find someone different.
This is for my taste and I don't want to argue.
rockfenris2005 - February 19, 2007 08:00 PM (GMT)
I'm sure the actual rumours said Hugh Jackman and Scarlet Johannsen (sp?) were being pursued
Don't quote me on that
MadameAngel - February 21, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Having seen the Prestige not five days ago, it is my new official permission that Hugh Jackman would be PERFECT for Jekyll and Hyde. I agree with Andrew Darov, Hyde shouldn't be a bloody monster, he should just be cruel. A quiet kind of evil. The whole time I was watching the Prestige, actually, I kept thinking about how amazing Jackman would be as Jekyll and Hyde....
Benniek - March 2, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
I would love it if Hugh Jackman was Jykell and Hyde character. I loved him in "The Prestige".
I thought Emma needed more help on the acting part of the Phantom movie. I actually liked Gerald in it. His voice was edgy, scratchy, not perfect and I think the Phantom shouldn't have a beautiful voice.
I read on either playbill.com or broadway.com that they are looking at bringing "Gone With The Wind" to Broadway and are looking at Hugh Jackman to play Rhett... Now I would love that. :D
rockfenris2005 - March 3, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
There have already been several "Gone With The Wind" musicals and all of those pretty much flopped. As far as I hear it's just a bunch of producers with an idea. No writers or creative talent have been recruited for it except for, maybe, Hugh Jackman. They're gonna need someone good, and well known, to pull it off.
MadameAngel - March 5, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
But, if it does work out, I think it'd be good. I'd see it, I think. If it works out well, then.... there you go. It works.
Fantasma da Opera - February 23, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
And I just saw Hugh Jackman singing a parody "This is the Oscars" in the Oscars to the tune of This is the moment... :D
Can't say I loved him, but he's a good choice for the movie indeed. I would still prefer Anthony Warlow anyway...
