How far do you think the foppishness of Percy and the Bounders should go? Personally, I don't think it should be too over the top. Make it funny, not flamboyant.
I have to say I have seen a few SP musicals in state and I have seen funny and far to over the top, which was just horrible.
I just saw SP about a month ago and it was done way over the top and it was actually very uncomfortable to have to sit through it. Of course I thought the whole direction wasn't that good in the first place.
During two very important solo's by Percy and Chauvlin the director had people on stage moving scenery and dancing while moving the scenery and doing it infront of the performers.
Getting back to your statement, I think there is a fine line between the funny, which I love, and going overboard and making them look just plain stupid.
Amen. There's funny, and then there's over the top. And if it's good over the top, that's okay, but if it's just like, "Okay, too much foppishness" then it's not good. No one pays to see an average performance, they pay for well done, over the top amazingness, but not to the extreme. One can only be so foppish. (I love that word...)
