Title: Sebastian Bach
Rachel - June 4, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
Sebastian Bach is appearing on VH1 in the USA in the show "Supergroup".
I caught some of it yesterday... its really silly, but he did make a reference to "The Vampire Lestat"...

Hey! You started my thread!!! :P
I was going to start a Bach topic, because I recently bought a DVD of his performance off eBay (no, not on Broadway, but on his return to the role in North Carolina.) I actually really liked his performance. His transformation was done VERY wild and over-the top, with lots of screaming and twitching) but I thought it was very convincing... His "This Is THe Moment" is phenomenal, and his rock 'n roll screams during "Alive" were cool too. I will say his Hyde wasn't the best... just not scary enough. But overall, I thought he was pretty good. :D

Eheheh. I've only seen the advertisement for J&H on YouTube... the one with him and Colleen Sexton. I can only vouch for his performance to that extent... but I am glad you enjoyed it :-)

I heard he is the only actor to have appeared as J & H on Broadway that sung the songs in their original keys. The other actors had some of them lowered.
Useless information for you there :P

Does this include the female leads?
That's a pretty cool fact right there, thanks for sharing :-)

Only Jekyll has had his keys lowered. The only song that I know of that was lowered was Someone Like You since the 1990. It was proformed on the CD a 1/2 step up I believe

Yeh I mean only the Broadway Jekyll/Hydes, the females have the original keys as far as I know..
It must be all that rock singing which allows him to consistently hit the "Hyde!" on Alive...:)

Bach was certaintly not my favorite J/H but I will give credit to him for looking mighty good...and he did sing the hell out of a few of those songs. His Hyde left a lot to be desired.
He's best appreciated in a rock show in front of 5,000 screaming fans, where all the attention and adoration is focused on HIM.
He sure was an interesting character to have on Broadway and many of the JH cast liked him very much.
Unfortunatly after what took place early on in the Jesus Christ Superstar tour ( he walked off the show in a huff), it may be a long time until he's considered again.

For those who saw Bach as Jesus there was no question as to what was going on. It was presented to him more than once that this was not the Sebastian Bach show but he didn't seem to get the message or agree to be a "team player".
When he was confronted by another cast member, a heated situation took place and Bach walked off the stage summoned his croonies that took him home. Not to return and not invited back. It was a tough and costly lesson for him , I'm sure.

Not that I know the guy personally or anything... but it doesn't seem totally out of character.
I just can't imagine having the chance to perform professionally and behaving the way he did!
edit: This is my 400th post.

I certaintly didn't mean to say Bach's rock concerts are not considered professional. He has a loyal fanbase and earns a great deal of money in that profession.
I think it was more of a learning curve to take direction from a Broadway director and be told you cannot "do this or that in that fashion". and "no it's not ok to become a freak during your curtain call" and " we are discouraging your fans to leave their lighters home during JCS". All was not well backstage and between everything Bach just exploded and left.
I'm sure he's over it and doing fine. BTW, I was not impressed with Jesus in lime green canvas shoes, flinging his hair from side to side and giving Jesus a British accent. If he had oly played his cards right, he could have been prett good in this.

Ok that is rather incorrect info. What happen was Sebastian
did a radio interview that led to a dispute between him & Carl.
Baz said he was going to take the day off & Car flipped.
After Sebastian was out JCS tour went down hill & had to use a lower standard
replacement. Sebastian was offered a com back but declined, he was offered
a second time in J&H which he took. He was also offered Chity Chity Bang Bang
which he again Declined. Sebastian said he will return if the role is right.
But as for the last 2 years he is playing sold out gigs
to Madison square garden,Air Canada Center,Acer Arena Australia
& The Budokan in Japan, His last CD Project Frame Shift 2 an Absence of empathy
was one of the top rated CDs of 2005 & had many elements of Broadway theater
meets Progressive / Nu Metal....
Sebastian also has a new Straight out Metal CD coming out
on Nov. 20, 2007 called ANGEL DOWN.
And has been part of the MTV CRS TV show for the last 7 weeks.

Well, I won't go "tit for tat" on the details, but I know for a fact that Bach was not a team player at all with his JCS tour....not to mention the fact that he was dreadfully miscast.
As far as the JCS tour going down hill... hardly. Eric Kunze came in after Bach (not sure if it was immediately). Kunze was wonderful as Jesus! Carl was missing shows in Philly and was more seriously ill than many knew. His long time friend Danny Zolli took over the role of Judas for his dear friend, who eventually got much worse and died. Danny played opposite Eric.
Back to Bach... If my memory serves me right, J&H had closed after Bach went into JCS, so which J&H production was he offered the role for?
In Bach's defense, he was a unique and rather good J&H, very sexy to see....And as far as I could gather, they raised the key for Bach. He could scream like a soprano all right. They never adjusted the key of the original show for anyone. ( Peter, correct me if I'm wrong).
He was also nice to work with in J&H , as I'm told. He was funny and sweet off stage. The cast did like him. And he loved playing Jekyll. I was told he took the J&H "lab" home to his garage! But I can't confirm that.
Juggler - October 18, 2007 01:07 PM (GMT)
I don't have hard information on when or if they changed the key of songs for Jekyll on Broadway. I seem to remember hearing they had to lower it for David Hasselhoff... but maybe they raised it for Bach and then lowered it again. Just a guess.
He did play J&H again after Broadway... at the North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh, October 2004. George Merritt was also in that as Utterson and Kate Shindle was Lucy.
And I too heard that he took the lab set home with him from Broadway... to turn into a bar in his basement.
Best,
Peter
