Title: Your first time?
Description: Seeing Pimpernel

When and where was your first time seeing "The Scarlet Pimpernel"?
I saw it for the first time at a tiny theater in Texas--Baytown Little Theater. I lived in TX for a while before I moved back up North for school. It was a decent production for such a small place, and the leads were all pretty good. The guy playing Percy wasn't exactly Douglas Sills (I hate to be critical, but he was a little too old and bald--no wigs were used) but he handled the comedy really well. Marguerite had a great voice, and Chauvelin was pretty convincing. The only thing I thought was unnecessary was that they had Robespierre with bandaged up fingers--like he took pleasure in hurting himself because he loved pain and violence so much. But the real Robespierre couldn't stand the sight of blood, or so I read somewhere.
I'm sure many here have good stories, maybe even Broadway stories. Feel free to share them. B)

My first time was at my friend's high school. I went to see one of my voice teacher's other students, who was playing Chauvelin. Since this particular school always does an excellent job on their plays, I'm glad they chose this one. They did a really good job. That was 2 years ago, and I haven't seen it since, but it is definetly one of my favourite shows! Why do I spell favourite like a Brit? That's weird. Anyway! I didn't have the best seats, but I remember the show being incredible. Percy was hilarious, and Chauvelin was pretty good looking. I can't remember much about it now, but I remember I had more fun then I'd had in a long time!
I would see it again in a heartbeat, it's definetly one of the best shows ever!!

I saw it at my high school. It was just ok... I liked the show though and would love to see it professionally.

I saw it for the first time about three years ago at Hales Center Theatre. I was given bad directions to the theatre and I was very late. They would not allow me to go inside until there was a break in the production, so I had to stand in the lobby watching it on a hugh t.v. set.
The staging area is in the around and they use the aisle during the production, so they have to wait until it is save for the actors and the patronages to find their seats. By the time I was allowed to go into the theatre I had missed about 30 to 35 minutes of the production.
However, I tell you the rest of the production that I saw, I just loved. In fact after the production I got inline to get tickets to see it again and I bought the three CD's that were available.
All in all, I have seen "The Scarlet Pimperel" 15 times over the last three years.
Infact when I started listening to my cd, I had to find out who Douglas Sills was. Loved his singing voice in the production and had to find out everything about SP.
I do have to tell you something that is funny. I had no idea that SP was a musical. I have seen it as a movie on T.V. and A&E version on T.V. so I was shocked when my friend got tickets for everyone to see it was a musical and that it had been on Broadway.
One of my friends had the pleasure of seeing it on Broadway with Douglas Sills playing Percy. She had gone back there with a group from the high school she taught at and they were able to talk with Douglas after the production.

My first time was the second show of the German production in Halle on Feb.15th 2003... I only knew a few songs before but fell immediately in love with this show :)

The first time I saw the show was with the US National tour in Pittsburgh, PA during October 2000.
I didn't know much about the show before seeing it but thought it seemed interesting. I'm glad I went. :D It was also the first time I sat upstairs rather than in orchestra to see a show. Anyhow, I came home raving about it and later saw the tour in 2 more cities. :)
