Title: Anthony Warlow
GeorgeM - July 3, 2005 11:10 PM (GMT)
I was listening to the OBC of Jekyll and Hyde when someone in the theatre pointed out the Red and Black album of J&H. I went and got the album from the library and instantly thought during I Need to Know, that Anthony Warlow was in many ways superior to Bob Cuccioli. His power as Hyde is all the more sinister and his Jekyll feels much more tormented. I only wish he would do the staged verison of the show.
FireFuryFlame - July 4, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
Oh my dear, it is every Jekkie's dream for him to do the role onstage... but he's done a whole bunch of brilliant things. You should check out the rest of his musical and operetta work. Of course he occassionally performs J&H songs on-stage in concerts (I saw him sing "This is the Moment"... it was absolutely amazing...)
HJ7addict - July 4, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
Anthony Warlow IS superior to Robert Cuccioli. Of course, Anthony Warlow has one of the greatest voices of modern day.
Cuccioli acted the role so well, he won me over. However, Warlow's voice is unbelievably pure and his control is flawless.
Chuck Wagner commented once on the old board, and said that he was blown away by Warlow's performance.
Take Warlow's version of ALIVE....man, when he sings, "I feel I'll live on Forever"...he NAILS it! Same thing with CONFRONTATION.
Can you believe Warlow was in remission for his cancer when he recorded that?
RistoP - July 6, 2005 04:32 AM (GMT)
Recently I have been listening to Michael Buble and think his voice should suite
perfectly for the role of J&H. I recommend his albums.
What do you think?
Anthony is of course my number one choice.
wolfwynd - July 8, 2005 12:32 PM (GMT)
I adore Anthony Warlow, hes a steadforth Jekyll and a seductive Hyde. I especially love the dialogue in the middle of "Alive" and the little growl  Oh how I wish he would perform on stage :(
galadriel_bre - July 9, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
I adore the recording with AW, but meanwhile so much time has passed since it was recorded, that I don't wish him to perform the role. Irreasonable, but it is the anxiety that a life performance would not be the same...
FireFuryFlame - July 21, 2005 06:14 AM (GMT)
I would have to disagree with that. The man is utterly, utterly amazing - both in singing power and in acting. I saw him last night (I hope I don't turn all fangirl-y here) in HMS Pinafore and Trial by Jury (by Gilbert and Sullivan) in the new Opera Australia production of it, and as usual, he had me melting in my seat just due to his stage presence!
He could do anything. While living in Australia has it's drawbacks (only one production of J&H every 10 years or so and no musical CDs), it certainly has some advantages - namely Anthony Warlow. Oh, and Philip Quast.
If there are any other Australians on the boards, I can wholeheartedly recommend this concert - it's amazing!
Anthony Warlow's G&S

I really hope I can see Anthony Warlow someday, no matter which role he plays :P !
ultimatejekkie - July 25, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
Anthony is the BEST SINGER I know, not only his Jekyll, but his Stars or Bui-doi - Excellent. I have never liked Bring him home from Les Mis but when I heard it by Anthony it was a brand new song...

You really must! I tell you, it is an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life. Well, it was to me. I had never been so moved or visibly shaken by anything as the effect his "Gethsemane" had on me. Live.
And - oh! I am praying he will turn up this week. I'm doing my work experience at Opera Australia... where he has a production running at the moment... where he has done several shows before... I saw one of his costumes the other day, it was all I could do to not drag it away with me... damn, please turn up, Anthony! I did get to meet Teddy Tahu Rhodes, though. He's so nice. And tall.
But I digress. Anthony is the greatest. Period.
andre184 - July 26, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
Oh wow! IŽll be crossing fingers so you can meet him while your there ;)
IŽm actually starting to save some money for a trip to Australia hopefully in 2 years time. I have a friend doing his undergraduate course in Adelaide. Hopefully heŽll be performing either in Sydney or Melbourne when IŽm there.
andre184 - July 26, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
Just re-read my post. Hopefully ANTHONY WARLOW (not my friend) will be performing when I visit Australia. My friend is not even into musicals hehehehe, but IŽll tell him he was the excuse for me to see AW :P
FireFuryFlame - July 26, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
Oh, of course!
*squirrel runs past house*
A sign! I must go and see the Opera Australia matinee this Sunday!
...My friends are rather used to this now.
rockfenris2005 - August 7, 2005 10:17 AM (GMT)
Trust me! If Anthony Warlow was doing Jekyll onstage, and the house caught fire, I wouldn't evne notice. It's been my dream he would reprise this role...
Hopefully he does in Australia, someday..
FireFuryFlame - August 13, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
Perhaps we Jekkies could get together a petition to make him perform the role... not sure he'd be too happy about that, he's said often enough he's never going to do it. Plus he's working on new CDs plus got a lot of Opera Australia work coming up.
As to Opera Australia... I saw his two costumes for Pinafore, and his shoes. I got so excited, and then I realised how sad that was.
rockfenris2005 - August 15, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
According to programmes of three shows I have (which he starred in) there is not even a mention of Jekyll and Hyde. What gives?
Lucy - September 5, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)
I don't understand why he wouldn't want to do it, but he has his reasons, and that's his business. However, just like everyone else, I would love to see him perform the role, and the first time I heard the Gothic album, he gave me chills. I was instantly enthralled with his voice, and that became the start of my Hyde obsession.

Not sure what you mean... certainly in all the programs I have of him J&H has been mentioned in his credits... in "Magic of the Music" he sang "This is the Moment".
rockfenris2005 - September 17, 2005 11:55 AM (GMT)
Programmes as in theatrical programmes: or Playbills. I have three: Annie, something else, something else.. (all after Jekyll) and the concept album is not listed in his credits.
FireFuryFlame - September 20, 2005 07:31 AM (GMT)
Interesting. And this "something else" of which you speak sounds absolutely fascinating...
Any more Australians on the boards? If not, me and Ryan are keeping Anthony to ourselves ^.^
Tobias_Bloodworth - October 2, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
Hey I'm Australian too! I'm a Queenslander and I'll simply have to agree with you Anthony is excellent, even words better than that though I do know another Jekyll/Hyde that was pretty good, he's in my avatar!
JekyllandHyde91 - October 6, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
Hmm i have never heard anthony warlow's version honestly... i must listen to it but i still love Bob Cucciloi's version much much much though
FireFuryFlame - October 14, 2005 11:42 AM (GMT)
JekyllandHyde91, you have *not* heard J&H until you have heard the Warlow version. *melts dramatically*
And Tobias_Bloodworth, glad to see a cople more Aussies turnin' up. And here was me thinking this country was utterly Wildhorn-deprived. (Going to see Scarlet Pimpernel in Gosford end of this month - go me!) But I think your comment about the Jekyll in your avatar would have a little more weight if I had any idea who he was.
JekyllandHyde91 - November 13, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
I honestly love both their versions, AW is an awesome Hyde and is just awesome, and so is Robert so I am not going to pick lol
rockfenris2005 - November 14, 2005 05:07 AM (GMT)
Anthony is too good and Robert is too bad. It's like a (here's irony for you) Jekyll and Hyde "division". One's good and the other's evil. Make your choice.
Or petition for a medium (perhaps we'll get that with the Concert album?)
FireFuryFlame - November 15, 2005 08:19 AM (GMT)
Interesting. Can't wait for the concert album. I need my JH fix.
rockfenris2005 - November 16, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
Plus there's the new song "If You Ever Knew" :D
FireFuryFlame - November 29, 2005 07:28 AM (GMT)
Oh, yes! I'd forgotten about that... that's Emma's new song, isn't it?

So, to start discussion, what do we think about the current push to somehow, someway get Anthony involved in this new film version of J&H? Personally I think he'd be perfect, but other opinions, please.
rockfenris2005 - January 29, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Personally, getting him involved? You'd have to push sh!t up a hill
Good luck
ashtonu - January 29, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
Anthony Warlow is awesome, awesome AWESOME! He would certainly bring the movie up to the level of perfection, or, hell, above that! It just severely depresses me that even if he was willing to be in the movie, they probably wouldn't cast him, but some young Hollywood star who's never sung in his life. But... I guess if Frank and Leslie are involved, we might stand a chance.

I am inclined to agree.
But it would be amazing to be able to see him perform... he is kind of a legend.
A Sin With No Name - February 3, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
When I first heard AW sing in It's A Dangerous Game...WOW! I was instantly hooked. I adore his voice!
FireFuryFlame - February 7, 2006 10:23 AM (GMT)
I have my secret suspicions that his vocal cords are actually made of honey.

There's truth in that statement!
FireFuryFlame, did you, by any chance, leave a review on the J&H CD on Amazon under the name Tristan Hyde "Twisty"? Just curious.
FireFuryFlame - February 12, 2006 05:58 AM (GMT)
Heh... heh... yeah, that was me.
*blush*
MadameAngel - February 12, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
Hm, I must have missed that particular review. Or did I? Hmmm... *tries to remember* Nope, I have no idea. That's funny, tho, because I was just reading those!
Ooh, Fiddler on the Roof!!
