Title: Next in Tecklenburg...Dracula or Monte Cristo?

Fantasma da Opera - June 26, 2010 06:17 PM (GMT)
In an interview the director of the biggest Open-Air Theater in Germany, Radulf Beuleke, said that, appart from the rights to produce Michael Kunze & Sylvester Levay's Elisabeth, he would also like to stage at some point "Rebecca" or Frank's Dracula or Der Graf von Monte Cristo.

Granted the VBW isn't THAT open when it comes to different stagings of their shows, I think it's not likely that "Elisabeth" will be staged there (outside the current Tour) nor "Rebecca" (that will replace Monte Cristo in St.Gallen).

So...which of these Frank's shows would you like to see staged as an open-air production first?
I think I have to go with The Count of Monte Cristo. I think it's a story that, since it has lots of moments "outside" would work great in an open-air production.

Remember that this wouldn't be the first show by Frank to open in Tecklenburg Open-Air Theater, since this theater already staged an amazing production of Jekyll & Hyde with Patrick Stanke in the title role.

I also think they would do Monte Cristo because they did Sviboda's Dracula a few years ago, so not unless they really like the Dracula story I do not see why they would then do Wildhorn's Dracula, I mean I would love a place to do both versions within a decade, but yeah I would think they would jump at doing the newer show Monte Cristo.

I love their staging of Jekyll & Hyde, I really liked how they used the song Girls of The Night for Lucy's funeral.

I liked that idea too. I think it's where the song fits better.

As for Dracula...well Svoboda's Dracula is horrible  . And it has very little to do with the story of Dracula. In that area, Frank's Dracula is much more closer to what the audience wants to see. AND if the director would like to stage it, it's half way to get the show on stage ;)

But I would prefer to see Monte Cristo also :D

I also prefer Wildhorn's Dracula over Svoboda's, Wildhorn's is my favorite Dracula musical. I just think most theatre's wouldn't do productions of 2 different Dracula musicals so close to one another. Though personally I would love a theatre to do productions of every Dracula musical back to back creating a whole season of Dracula musicals, there are around 14 different Dracula musicals out there. I honestly like almost all of them, but yeah Frank's is my favorite :D

Well if Theaters in Germany can stage Elisabeth over and over and over again...I doubt staging two different Dracula's is going to make any difference
