Title: What will be the next Wildhorn concept CD?

Masquerader - June 5, 2010 10:28 PM (GMT)
Any idea?

Fantasma da Opera - June 6, 2010 12:21 AM (GMT)
No, but I have some ideas...

I think Frank could release a Concept Recording of Bonnie & Clyde since the show will have it's second production.

If Havana hadn't been canceled, that one would be a possibility too.

He's also premiering his show Mitsuko in Japan, though I don't know if a Concept of that one would appeal as much as the other shows.

He also premiered Cyrano last year in Japan, but no Concept came out, it would be interesting to hear something from there too.

Another rumor that has been around is that Frank was planning to re-record the English Concept CD for Dracula using the tracks recorded by the Budapest Operettszinház Orchestra for the Graz Cast Recording. And my vote would definitly go for this CD!

I doubt Havanna would be getting a concept recording. Linda released 3 or 4 of the songs, which I would assume are still in it.

Bonnie & Clyde will either get nothing, a cast album of the Sarasota cast sheilded as a Concept Album or they'll wait til they get to Broadway if it happens "in the Spring" to do a full Broadway Cast Recording!

Cyrano has it's concept album recorded, unless it's changed...the one with Douglas Sills, Linda Eder & Rob Evan but of course it hasn't been released =(. I wonder if there are any plans to bring that back soon!

I think everyone will be surprised by the next Frank Wildhorn recording :D

Tears From Heaven, I thought I would put that one out there. Haven't heard much about this project lately. I hope everything is still going well.

That's what sounds like the next one / surprise I was talking about! Most people seem to totally forget it! Hopefully it gets released & is in English =)!

Linda recorded the Havana tracks ages ago. While some are still in the show others are probably gone.

Bonnie & Clyde has a great score and I see no reason why it shouldn't get a Concept. Wonderland was also suposed to go to Broadway and didn't went and yet it got a Concept Recording ;)

The Cyrano Concept was never recorded. So that could be a nice one to think in recording! ;)

I thought about Tears from Heaven but with it opening in South Korea, it will have a Cast Recording released so I doubt they'll release an English Concept for it.

Cyrano was most definitely recorded with Linda Eder, Douglas Sills & Rob Evan:

I believe the plans were totally thrown out and it was billed as a Demo recording...though I find it hard to believe they would record it with those 3 stars, then just have them re-do it...

If Bonnie & Clyde is definitely going to Broadway, as in if plans are set, there is absolutely no point in doing a full concept album (or "Highlights" if that's what people call Wonderland's), then go to Broadway where they'd be able to work it in fully with producers to get a real orchestra, the full cast and the finalized version of the show just months later.

Does anyone think Havana will happen in this lifetime? LOL I've sadly given up hope. This is like the third time it's been announced / dates given and it didn't happen :(. Regardless, I think Havana probably won't do anything until a story is set. If the PLAY itself is DONE, I could see it, but if not, then they could just find pop people to record the songs since they aren't necessarily 100% theatrical exclusive, whereas something like Cyrano leans more to being theatrical over pop.

I can assure you Cyrano was never recorded. They started pre-production (as it says) but then never recorded it. I've contacted GlobalVision before to ask that, and it was the answer I got ;)

I don't know if Bonnie & Clyde is going to Broadway any time soon. I think it would be better to wait until the panorama on Broadway is more friendly to musicals which aren't popish-and-completly-brainless.
And then we all know what Broadway normaly does to Franks shows. Broadway ruins Frank's shows. So I'd rather get a Concept before Bonnie & Clyde head to broadway and get ruined by some "smart guy" just like it happened to Jekyll & Hyde and Dracula.

As for the Orchestra, you may not know, but Frank created in Europe the label MWB - Music without borders, in a partnership with MG-Sound Wien. They have produced the Count of Monte Cristo and Dracula CDs and for those they used the Orchestra of the Budapest Operettszinház, an Orchestra far better than any pit-orchestra you can find on Broadway nowadays.
So all I think they needed to do is record the CD in Europe, or at least the instrumental tracks. ;) (Btw, MWB is now also the label of the Wonderland Concept.)

I do hope Havana comes to life. As far as I know the script is finally finished, so it just needs to be produced. And I think it would do better on Broadway nowadays along with Wonderland instead of Cyrano or Bonnie & Clyde.
But apparently there's some curse upon this show that's in the works for...what?..20 years now? I think it will probably end up opening either in Japan or Europe before the USA...

I think he might be referring to the 2004 demo with Linda Eder, Douglas Sills and Rob Evan?

I never heard any heard any names connected to the GlobalVision release.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Bonnie & Clyde" moves to Broadway after the production in Sarasota, Florida. It seems to have a lot going for it, and I think it will sell because of all the interest in Bonnie & Clyde lately.

As for the Wonderland concept, MWB did release it in Europe but Sony Masterworks released it in the US.

As for Frank's productions taking so many years to reach Broadway, I can't say that surprises me unfortunately. This industry can be a cruel one.

I still hope that "Bonnie & Clyde", "Wonderland" and "Havana" all open on Broadway, giving Frank another trifecta. Better yet, an English "Count of Monte Cristo" but I can't ever see that happening...

The recording of Cyrano with Doug Sills and Linda Eder was a demo, and was completed before the founding of GlobalVision Records. As a demo, there are no plans to release it on the market.

GlobalVision's plan was to create a new (actual concept) recording for Cyrano. Those plans haven't materialized.

It amazes me there hasn't been a big push for Monte Cristo on Broadway, ... there's actually quite a few people who really really enjoy the score, not to mention the book is well-read in the US and the movies are still watched...

I think Bonnie & Clyde's music is much like The Civil War...it isn't necessarily exclusive (I know pretty much every Wildhorn score has it's one or two that seem like they could play on the radio) to the theatre and is VERY pop-y. With the interest (and aren't they remaking that movie?) they'd be smart to bring it to Broadway. I know it's well, unfortunately Wildhorn but Bonnie & Clyde's producers announced it's BROADWAY-BOUND following the Asolo run:

http://www.bradenton.com/2010/03/09/211534...r-broadway.html

Who knows how true it is, but apparently casting is complete except one role.

Wonderland will fair well regardless (probably not with critics, however) because it will latch on with the whole Wicked/crowd, especially if things like Hair and next to normal close. They will need a new show and they will latch on. Problem with WONDERLAND is no one necessarily liked the adult-Alice thing, and then when they finally got around to liking the idea with what they did in Tampa, people hated the whole "it was all a dream" thing in Houston.... there needs to be some ironing on that plot so majorly. So many questions...why does Chloe go down there? Why does "the writer" just show up/etc?

I think Havana would fare well with a NAME attached to it. It's definitely going to be a great vehicle musically, but no one I suppose (or I'm out of the loop :P ) knows how strong the story even is!

I keep holding out hope for a Camille Claudel concept CD.

Although my greatest wish would be an album of WIldhorn songs recorded by Rachel York.

Although I think the show still needs improvements, it is indeed a great show. HOWEVER it is not the kind of show that I can see fitting on Broadway nowadays. It's a full-orchestral classic score and B'way is more into pop things nowadays...

I'd be curious about a Havana concept CD. I didn't really care for the concept CD that was recorded a few years back but since Nilo Cruz came on board I'd be interested to see how it has changed now.

I hope "The Last Tango" from linda eder's IT'S TIME album will be in Havana.
