Title: Do you want subtitles on the Rudolf DVD?
Juggler - September 14, 2009 03:57 PM (GMT)
Hi folks,
This is a call for a bit of help. The team behind the Rudolf DVD is wondering how much of a demand there really is for English subtitles on the DVD. They're obviously still thinking about it, but it isn't definite. So what I need, is to hear from those of you who want the subtitles. Here's how:
Please send mail to peter@williamswebdesign.com (so I can collect all of this in one place).
Put "Rudolf DVD" in the subject line.
And tell me: how many copies you might buy if it _doesn't_ have English subtitles (German only), and also how many copies you might buy if it _does_ have English subtitles.
I'll collect the responses and pass the information along. This is your chance to be heard...
Best,
Peter

This is indeed a good idea! Since there are many fans of the show that will buy the DVD but are not here in the boards, I assume there's no problem in spreading the message so all the people may say something?
I'm for subtitles. Not only I can't always understand everything they say, with english subtitles I can tell to friends who already love the music they can buy it 'cause they'll be able to understand what's going on.
It would also important to increase sales in the USA where Frank has a big fan base too I think.
But I'll put all this in the email

If anyone knows of fans who would want to buy the DVD, and aren't on these boards (or the Wildhorn mailing lists, where I also posted), do feel free to pass on the invitation, and have them e-mail me. This is all about collecting numbers.

I personally appreciate DVD extras of all kind, subtitles, interviews, a Making of.
Of course, if the content of the DVD may be improved it's worth to wait a few more weeks. But is the including of extras really a new considration?
I would like to suggest to complete the DVD perhaps by a second disc which offers additional material like interviews, a Making of, perhaps a backstage report ...

I think extras, making ofs etc is streatching the rope to much. Not even Elisabeth had them. It took the special 3DVD edition to have a miserable making of, and still no subtitles nor anything.
So I'm rather happy if Rudolf has at least subtitles. I pass the making of's etc. They're nice but not essencial. And I personaly...don't want to wait more weeks just for that

Well, I just want to avoid a situation like the Elisabeth fan edition DVD. They have first released the one disc edition, everybody bought that one, and then they released the fan edition. And the fan edition is according to my opinion not worth the additional charge.

It's indeed not worth it you're right. But although I like Rudolf a lot, unfortunatly the show isn't such a huge Hit like Elisabeth. So VBW won't release a new DVD edition. It's not profitable. And VBW works a lot around profit. Proof is that everytime they have a financial whole they revive Elisabeth  That's why I think this DVD with subtitles will be enough. One day if the show turns into a hit perhaps they'll do another DVD but you don't have an Elisabeth in every corner.
I think it's more likely a Gesamtaufnahme of Rudolf based on the DVD (like they did with the Elisabeth DVD) than a fan edition.
And I would honestly prefer if MWB released a DVD of Count of Monte Cristo for example instead of a "special edition" of Rudolf. Specially 'cause I'm sure it would sell much better than a 2nd special edition. The Rudolf DVD is already on the top of sales for more than a month which means loads of people already pre-ordered it, so I dunno if there would be a market still for a "special edition".
Budapest operettszinház could release a DVD of their version of Rudolf, and that would sell (I think probably even better than the Vienna version 'cause the show in Budapest was superior IMO), but since they unfortunatly didn't even released a CD I doubt that will happen =\

You forgot Tanz der Vampire. As far as I'm informed it is selling quite good.

True. But don't also forget Tanz is more recent (97) and only had one Revival, this one. And yes it's selling very well even though Thomas Borchert won't be there a lot lol (they forgot to warn people Thomas would be playing in Monte Cristo and Novecento at the same time  )

Hi again,
I just wanted to do a quick follow-up here. I'm getting some great responses to this so far (sorry folks, I won't be able to reply to everything individually, but thank you for writing!).
If you haven't had a chance to respond yet, and you wanted to, please take a few minutes to send me a message... I'm trying to pass as much information on to the DVD team as possible, so they can move forward.
Best,
Peter

That's an interesting point. But some people don't want to see Thomas playing Graf von Krolock, and they are happy about Thomas' other engagements. So, it seems everybody is happy to see Tanz in Vienna again.
