Title: Rebecca?
Description: What's going on?

rockfenris2005 - May 19, 2009 12:43 PM (GMT)
First I heard they were delaying it for the next season, then I heard they were moving it to the West End. Wasn't there supposed to be a production in Toronto? I believe "Rebecca" was originally written in English for the West End but those plans didn't eventuate, hence the Viennese production. I really hope this goes well for Michael Kunze. He deserves it.

REBECCA is planned to open on B'way in the 2010/2011 season. Before that they are going to do a try-out in Toronto/Canada hopefully still this year.

What happened in London was the first reading of the show. Since Michael Kunze lives in Germany, Christopher Hampton in England etc etc they decided it would be cheaper and more easy to gather the team in England.
However there are no plans for Rebecca to be staged in the West End so far. Next year productions planned so far are Budapest, Czech Republic and the return to Japan. and of course the Canadian Try-outs.

And just to satisfy your curiosity, the Reading Cast was lead by Lisa O'Hare ("I") and Julian Ovenden (Maxim) joined by Anna Francolini, Susannah Fellows, David Burt und Jessica Martin.

And if you have any questions you would like to ask Michael Kunze himself, you can always ask him directly here (you can write in english, and he will asnwer in english)

And in case you don't want to wait for 2011 to see Rebecca on B'way, next year you'll be able to see the show in:

- Japan (returns this time to the Imperial Theater)
- Czech Republic
- Budapest / Hungary
and Holland (with Pia Douwes as Mrs. Danvers!!!)

These are the spots so far. There may be other places though, the show is getting stagings everywere very quickly :D

Update:

In an interview to BroadwayWorld Michael Kunze reveals that there are discussions to stage REBECCA in his homeland - England - before moving to B'way.
This happening, made me, of course, quite happy...after all I'm closer to England
