Title: Rudolf - Vienna Cast Album
Fantasma da Opera - March 11, 2009 07:17 PM (GMT)
I was informed today by the responsible of Merchandising of VBW that the RUDOLF - VIENNA CAST CD will be comming out in the beggining of April!!!!! :D :D :D
Pre-orders are already open at the VBW online shop
https://secure.musicalvienna.at/shop/t2shop_803/
Juggler - March 19, 2009 06:18 PM (GMT)
Pre-orders are now available from Sound Of Music as well:
http://soundofmusic-shop.de/CD_RUDOLF_-_AF..._Cast_2009.htmlThey're saying mid to late April.
Fantasma da Opera - March 20, 2009 12:08 AM (GMT)
Ok, you spared me the "trouble" of posting that too.
Anyway, apparently there's no certainty about the date. VBW told me beggining of April, but we all know how these things work :D
Anyway, I do hope it's end of April...'cause I've just went bankrupt with the programm, posters and pins of Rudolf :P
Juggler - March 20, 2009 01:56 PM (GMT)
It could be that SOM is playing it safe, and projecting a date later than VBW on purpose. It could be that the date's sliding back a bit. As is so often the case, we'll just have to wait and see.
Having the pre-orders up on two sites now is a good sign that album production is going ahead, at least.

Ah but VBW would produce a CD of the show for sure. I was never affraid they wouldn't :P They have produced CDs even of smaller, short run productions staged open air in the "Mobile Ronacher" like "Die Weberischen" and "Die Habsburgischen" that a big production like Rudolf would have a CD for sure ;)
The only thing I wonder is if there will be or not a Gesamtaufnahme. The show is getting some good reviews and many very bad reviews (mainly conserning the script: way to much love, very historicaly incorrect etc)...so if the show resists the summerbreak, and gets a bit more sucessful, there may be a Gesamtaufnahme or a karaoke CD (like happened with VBW's production of Romeo & Julia) If not...
Fantasma da Opera - March 23, 2009 09:30 PM (GMT)
VBW also says middle april now... ;)
Fantasma da Opera - March 30, 2009 01:43 AM (GMT)
Amazon.de also has the CD available for pre-sale
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0021DV5QW...ASIN=B0021DV5QWThey mark the release for April 10th.
And it WILL HAVE THE LYRICS!!! YEY!
The song list is:
1. Ouverture
2. Du willst nicht hören
3. Ein hübscher Krieg
4. Marys Lied
5. So viel mehr
6. Wohin führt mein Weg?
7. Vertrau in uns
8. Die Fäden in der Hand
9. Du bleibst bei mir
10. Wie jeder andre Mann
11. Mut zur Tat
12. Der Weg in die Zukunft
13. Die Liebe lenkt
14. Wenn das Schicksal dich ereilt
15. Kann ich einfach gehn?
16. Ich schütze den Staat
17. Du bist meine Welt & Only love reprise
They left behind, unfortunatly great songs like "New boy in town" and "Finish what you've started" but well...after all it's just a "highlights" :P
Fantasma da Opera - April 11, 2009 10:19 PM (GMT)
Ok, so the CD was already released (on 7th April) and to make easier for those who haven't ordered it yet or may not know how to find it, these are the shops where you can get it:
Musical-Shop (Germany)SoM-shop (Germany) Amazon.deVBW-shop (Austria)SoundofMusic has also now a display of Wildhorn works named
"Frank Wildhorn Musicals: How many do you have?" which sums up the main CDs of Frank's shows they have for sale (though they have more from shows like J&H and Pimpernel.
Also found a treasure for sale in their website, for those completists like me to whom the Vienna Programm is not enough, they have the
Hungarian Programm of the show.
So...that's it :P I'll keep editing this post as shops outside Germany/Austria get the CD too.
libradude - April 12, 2009 08:42 PM (GMT)

1. Prologue
2. You Never Listen
3. Pretty Little War
4. Mary's Theme
5. Something More
6. How Will I Know?
7. Only Love
8. The Master Of The Strings

11. The Measure Of A Man
12. The Steps Of Tomorrow
13. Only Heroes Dare
14. The Writing's On The Wall
15. Can I Say Goodbye?

Fantasma da Opera - April 12, 2009 09:38 PM (GMT)
Yes that's it. The entire show songlist is posted on the "Rudolf in Vienna" thread in this board, check it out for more info ;)
libradude - April 12, 2009 10:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks-- I missed that. My first impressions of this album are pretty mixed. There are certainly some highlights, but it's not particularly a knock out in terms of orchestrations, performances, or "substance." For example, Drew Sarich doesn't shine here like he does in Dracula, but he's not a complete dud either. Orchestrations aren't much improved from the production's Hungarian predecessor. Those are just a few of my first impressions. I will probably write a full review at some point.
Fantasma da Opera - April 13, 2009 12:03 AM (GMT)
You're welcome ;)
I will also write a review when I get more time but the orchestrations were scaled down and in some songs (Master of the Strings) even ruined. No idea WHY. Though the fact that they use a 10 piece orchestra with loads of synths may contribute for it. (the songs have a B'way Dracula feeling to me).
Drew is great though he does sound like he messes up a lign in Ordinary Man. Uwe Kröger is as I've said since they announced him for Taaffe, a huge miscast, and this time not even the Studio magic saved him (like in Dracula).
The Highlight of the CD is without a doubt Wietske as Stephanie who delievers a smashing "It will be me!"

Just got my copy of the Sing Along CD...and IT'S AMAZING! All orchestral without a single chorus!!!
So all the fans can sing the songs in whatever language they want to! :D :D
rockfenris2005 - May 19, 2009 12:41 PM (GMT)
I haven't got any of the albums yet which is just shocking for me!
Edward - December 14, 2009 09:29 PM (GMT)
Just found an announcement of the complete cast recording - live - 2 CD, which should be available on 18th December 2009.
So far, it can be pre-ordered at
http://www.musical-shop.de/details.asp?Artikelnr=42115
Fantasma da Opera - December 14, 2009 10:16 PM (GMT)
Also saw that but since neither VBW nor SoM have it announced, I'm keeping reservations on it happening.
Musical-shop had also announced the Köln Cast Recording of Spamalot and then the CD didn't happened. Let's wait and see.
Also, for those who have bought the DVD, think if you really want to buy the 2CD...being a live Recording it's most likely a rip of the DVD (just like the Elisabeth 2005 2CD)

I share your doubt, on the other hand the CD cover looks rather realistic. It can also be found at
http://www.kultur-channel.at/frank-wildhor...gesamtaufnahme/I also expect just the audio track of the DVD should be marketed, and it's much too late for a good Christmas trade ...
Fantasma da Opera - December 15, 2009 01:35 PM (GMT)
SoM has now the CD for
Pre-OrderI'm surprised they're even releasing this, granted how bad the show is selling already. Perhaps they think releasing a Audio Rip of the DVD may grant some sales...I'll buy it but only for the sake of my collection since I could rip the audio from the DVD myself...

And we can be sure it is really the audio track of the DVD.
If you compare the track listing of the DVD and the live recording, they are identical.
I'm wondering if they will already have special offers in local stores previous to Christmas Eve.
Juggler - December 15, 2009 08:29 PM (GMT)
The first (single CD) cast recording is now double platinum.
The DVD is now platinum.
Ship date for the new, complete cast recording is 18 December.
Fantasma da Opera - December 18, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
Surprise! Release postponed to December 22
Edward - December 18, 2009 07:03 PM (GMT)
Surprise, surprise! At the VBW souvenir shop it is available:
https://secure.musicalvienna.at/shop/index....m_store=deutschI can imagine that the announcement of the Gesamtaufnahme was too late in order to deliver it to Germany in time.
Edward - December 18, 2009 07:17 PM (GMT)
On the other hand, since delivery previous to Christams Eve cannot be guaranteed, there's no difference in announcing shipping date is December 18, 2009 or December 22, 2009.
Fantasma da Opera - December 18, 2009 07:46 PM (GMT)
Well I wasn't expecting to receive it as a Christmas gift since this year I won't celebrate it, its more to show tradition continues or to quote Taaffe..."Alles bleibt wie es ist und so wie's immer war."

Well, the result is the same, but this time it looks like the release was announced just a few days prior to shipment, and that causes supply difficulties at foreign resellers.
Edward - December 21, 2009 09:36 PM (GMT)
It's interesting, amazon meanwhile also announces the Gesamtaufnahme, but is not allowed to sell the CD before December 28, 2009:
Rudolf - Gesamtaufnahme Live.
Fantasma da Opera - December 22, 2009 12:44 AM (GMT)
On the other hand both VBW and Musical-shop have it available...
SoM sent my copy of the CD on the mail today so they also have it now too.
Amazon.de normaly takes longer to get the items though.

Indeed. Today, they have changed the status to "usually available in 1 to 2 months".
Fantasma da Opera - December 29, 2009 01:54 PM (GMT)
Just got my copy. As we thought it's a shameless rip of the DVD like Elisabeth. Plus it doesn't bring the lyrics of the songs...
Advice to everyone who may be considering to buy it: if you bought the DVD, DON'T bother spending more money with this. Just rip the DVD and you'll have the Gesamtaufnahme.
Edward - December 29, 2009 07:00 PM (GMT)
What's about the booklet? Since one have to pay nearly the same amount for the DVD and the Gesamtaufnahme, I would expect a premium booklet accompanying the 2 CD-set. At least as comprehensive as the one from the DVD.

The booklet? Another rip off. It doesn't even bring the lyrics. Only a bunch of photos os the show. (I think new photos, but I only got the programmheft of the 1st season and I don't know if the they made a 2nd season one like they did with Rebecca).
It's definitly NOT worth the money. The CDs are pretty (basicly same as the Cast Album and Sing-Along but in blue tones.) but that's it.
Edward - December 29, 2009 08:00 PM (GMT)
The question is what we can really expect from a CD or DVD production. VBW produces at least recordings of their actual shows. Okay, the schema is always the same: first a highlights single CD, and towards the end of a run a Gesamtaufnahme, perhaps even from the same recording session. They know all the fans in Vienna and around the world must buy both releases, and so it's a real good deal for them. On the other hand, I assume they will discontinue this series, there are already so many Tanz der Vampire recordings, and also a cast recording of Ich war noch niemals in New York.
Fantasma da Opera - December 29, 2009 11:53 PM (GMT)
Actually there's only 2 CDs of Tanz der Vampire in German: the Original Cast one (with the irreplacable and best Krolock ever, Steve Barton) and the Anniversary Concert.
Will there be a CD of the Wien Revival? Don't think so, specially since the Cast is basicly the same as the Concert one. Wich doesn't mean VBW won't release a Sing Along or a Gesamtaufnahme.
In this case, what p*ssed me is that they simply tried to deceive the fans. Sure the Gesamtaufnahme of Elisabeth was a rip of the DVD but then again, they had already released one in 95. Thing is...before that they released the Gesamtaufnahme of Tanz recorded in studio and after that the Gesamtaufnahme of Romeo und Julia also in studio.
Rebecca was live but there was no DVD (I would sell my soul for one!). With Rudolf they simply are trying to milk the fans out.
