Title: Alive! + Reprise = ?
Description: "Wait, what's this... ?"

So, after listening to the Complete Works recording and hearing the combined version of Alive!, I'm extremely curious. The middle section, "Wait, what's this?", ect., and especially "Your folly will cost you dear, my dear", has me wondering what may have originally be meant to happen onstage during this song.

Something doesn't quite make sense. At this point, Hyde has just been created, and he couldn't have met Lucy yet, because there's a separate song for that.

I'm pretty sure it was never actually done onstage (well, except for that production I saw... on that website with the videos... ) but this version is also on Resurrection, and I wonder if it was ever seriously intended to be staged continuously.

Does anyone know, and if so, could you fill me in?

Actually the complete version was already staged specially in the german version. In Vienna (as well as Dresden and other stagings), the complete version of Alive is there, but doesn't appear after Transformation. It comes after Hyde and Lucy meet. There is a costumer molesting Lucy and Hyde drives him away. When he tells Hyde to buzz off, Hyde gets angry and kills him. Then he sings the complete version of Alive ;)

I still prefer the separate version though.

The long version of Alive is on the Complete Work, Madrid Cast, Vienna Cast, Japanese Cast, Staatz (Austrian) Cast, & Resurrection. (If you needed that information)

The scene "Wait, whats this.." is pretty much what Fantasma describes. But in the middle, Lucy appears onstage & Hyde see's her & says "Your folly will cost you dear, my dear", then Hyde kinda "feels" Lucy up, gets violent, causing Lucy to leave, & sings the second part of the song.

So, wait... Transformation followed by Lucy Meets Hyde followed by Alive? Hmm. That's... interesting.

In the 1987 version it says "Wait! What's this? sweet miss I thought I had lost you, it's fate, what bliss, sweet miss, your folly will cost you! Wait, that man! Who's he? I know I've seen him! Too late! I'll wait, we'll see, there'll be another time!" Then a narrating voice comes in & says "Frustrated, Hyde peers from the shadows as Lucy & the man in black enter her flat for the night's 'business' Lucy Harris is safe...for now." So that also might explain what was originally supposed to happen during that scene.
