Title: Future productions?
Description: Anything on the horizon?

rockfenris2005 - January 1, 2009 08:19 AM (GMT)
Anyone heard anything?

Fantasma da Opera - January 1, 2009 03:20 PM (GMT)
Just the suposed Japanese one and there were rumors of a production in Munich but those were only rumors.

Juggler - January 1, 2009 04:33 PM (GMT)
Music Theatre International just announced a new batch of musicals that they will be handling... including Dracula. According to their site, licensing is not yet open for the show... but this is a sign of some progress.

Yeah I noticed but DRACULA will be under a restricted licencing so far. I guess its until they get the script right.
I also assume the script that MTI will licence is the Graz one right?

Juggler - January 1, 2009 07:38 PM (GMT)
It's probably a safe guess that it will be close to the Graz script, since that was the "latest and greatest." I don't know anything more than you do, though. They could always surprise us.

libradude - January 8, 2009 09:52 PM (GMT)
That script is constantly being edited from what I've heard. I have very much so enjoyed watching Dracula evolve though. The changes that have been made have really turned a rather dull American musical (during its broadway run) into an international success.

Broadway has just become way too commercialized and predictable. Even the shows that have good scores generally turn out with bad productions. It's become more and more clear to me that many countries in Europe know how to handle more "serious" works better than here in the states. I think the best that Dracula can hope for here is a solid place in community and regional theatres.

Indeed! That's why I would like more productions. 'cause the show has huge potential and still needs some fixing here and there so the more the merrier :D

There have been rumors of München and Bremen for quite some time, but apparently only rumors...I do hope they come true! Specially if it's staged in Bremen!
For 2 reasons:

- Marie Antoinette needs to go. It's awfull.
- Ethan Freeman would ROCK as Dracula! :D (And we would get another CD, even though probably with only 13/16 tracks :P )

rockfenris2005 - February 4, 2009 07:35 AM (GMT)
I never heard anything about Bremen or Munich until MinaHarker mentioned it here.

I've already mentioned Munich on a post dated from 1 Jan 2009. And I'm pretty sure we already talked about that here :P

MinaHarker - February 4, 2009 05:27 PM (GMT)
unfortunately we must wait

FdO: have you seen MA in Bremen? Why do you write itīs awful??

as Dracula, if Thomas is busy, I would like to see Jan Ammann

Not Thomas again...I like him, but I prefer different faces. Jan would be nice, but in Bremen I see Ethan getting the role more quickly :D

Of-topic:

-I saw pictures, I heard the Japanese CD and I got the Bremen CD. mainly from everything I've seen and heard of the show, it's boring, re-ashed, and a stupid atempt to wipe out Marie Antoinette's history :P I have posted a review of the CD, in the Off-topic thread if you want to read more ;)

And honestly, I love Kunze/Levay, they created by all time favourite musical - Rebecca - but this time I am not interested AT ALL in their new show, specially when Rudolf and The Count of Monte Cristo are also hopening and I consider both of them far superior shows. :P

Toru771 - February 11, 2009 09:10 PM (GMT)
I'd love for Ethan to play Dracula... In fact, I think I'd have preferred him to Thomas. Jan would be interesting -- I liked him as Krolock. And maybe after Drew Sarich has done "Rudolf" for a while, he could come back and do "Dracula" again sometime. :D

I just saw some clips of Eiji Akutagawa as the Phantom in ALW's musical, and I think if Toho does a production of "Dracula," he'd be a great choice for the lead role. I'd also be quite happy with Kiyotaka Imai, Kojiro Oka (Javert in the 2003 "Green" cast of LM), or Yuichiro Yamaguchi in the role. But whatever happens, I hope some new, great productions of this show will open soon (and hopefully release some official recordings).

Fantasma da Opera - March 25, 2009 09:36 PM (GMT)
In this Interview about Rudolf, Frank says Dracula will play next year (I assume this year, 2009, since this interview was in the press conference of Rudolf) in Munich and Bremen! :D

But you said rumours, not discussions?

Juggler - March 26, 2009 05:19 PM (GMT)
There have been talks about European productions... and rumors coming up about those... nothing has been definite enough to announce yet.

As I understand it right now... Bremen and Munich will both have to wait a while. Probably not happening this year, but they may come back to it down the road. Dare I utter those three little words? We'll have to wait and see.

Ok then I hope you cut Rossana out  'cause honestly the song adds really nothing to the plot and it was just an excuse to give Uwe a song to sing :P

I wish all the best for your production though ;)

i hate the song too but still it's a song to sing

and it helps to build his personality a little

That's exciting! Good luck with the production, and keep us updated :)

rockfenris2005 - May 19, 2009 12:31 PM (GMT)
Congratulations! I take it this means the production will soon be announced on the MTI website? Re: "Roseanne", doesn't this have to do with Van Helsing's wife being murdered by Count Dracula long, long ago? Or am I confusing the versions?

In theory yes...thing is...none of that is explained in the song nor at any point of the show. Van Helsing sings it out of nowhere and whitout any apparent reason...

I would not even think of hoping for a production in Bremen. Don't know if anybody here is familiar with the situation in Bremen. But they just made a 1.200.000 Euro shortfall, resulting from the production of Marie Antoinette.

Fantasma da Opera - June 9, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
Yes I know. On the other hand Dracula isn't a very expensive show (meaning it works well on minimal sets), so it will come to way they intend to recoup the MA budget hole.

Marie Antoinette was a terrible move for the BRemen Theater...no one in his right mind should spend millions on those huge sets and expensive costumes to run a production just for a couple of months.

Let's see how they will solve the problem.

Edward - June 9, 2009 07:08 PM (GMT)
It seems Bremen is not a good place for musicals, especially the Bremen Musical Theater hasn't housed a really successful show so far. Jekyll & Hyde, Hair, and Marie Antoinette are just a few examples.

rockfenris2005 - June 10, 2009 05:46 AM (GMT)
We need another English production but it has to be based on the Graz production. THAT, I think, would do well. All the people who love Evanescence, Nightwish, My Chemical Romance etc. would go.
